Mixed carbonate-siliciclastic sedimentation in a mesoproterozoic storm-dominated ramp: Depositional processes and stromatolite development

چکیده
Records of shallow-marine ramps with the mixing carbonate and siliciclastic sediments are common throughout geological time. All these records have pure deposits as end members, occurring contemporaneously in distinct depositional regions along ramp, transitional hybrid facies between them. The two member can mix different scales alternate time due to climatic changes regressions transgressions. This work presents a detailed reconstruction Mesoproterozoic storm-dominated mixed carbonate-siliciclastic ramp composed whithout presence or deposits, rare example record. Based on high resolution logged section (in 1:20 scale) qualitative thin sections, eleven lithofacies were identified grouped into three associations (offshore, offshore transition shoreface), which stacked vertically forming transgressive–regressive cycle. faciological distribution indicates low relief wide microbial colonization from shallow relatively deep waters (below storm-wave base level). In low-energy distal areas, mats spread laterally over large distances little no interference currents, while morphology bioherms is shaped by currents induced waves. turn, wave energy shoreface inhibits formation stromatolites, restricting their occurrence layers carpets intraclastic lags. occurs compositional scale homogeneous whole interval, independent shifts associations. homogeneity linked regularity input during sedimentary accumulation. Strong storms allow transport grains generated basin fair-weather periods.

متن کاملCarbonate platform growth and cyclicity at a terminal Proterozoic passive margin, Infra Krol Formation and Krol Group, Lesser Himalaya, India
The Infra Krol Formation and overlying Krol Group constitute a thick (< 2 km), carbonate-rich succession of terminal Proterozoic age that crops out in a series of doubly plunging synclines in the Lesser Himalaya of northern India. The rocks include 18 carbonate and siliciclastic facies, which are grouped into eight facies associations: (1) deep subtidal; (2) shallow subtidal; (3) sand shoal; (4...

The trace fossil assemblages from the Unit 2 of Deh-Sufiyan Formation are described for the first time from The Central Alborz Range of northern Iran, improving the record of the assemblages in the Cambrian of the Middle East. Twenty-one ichnogenera have been identified in the Deh-Sufiyan Formation, namely Arenicolites, Bergaueria, Chondrites, Circulichnus, Cruziana, Diplichnites, Didymaulichnu...
متن کاملBivalve taphonomy in tropical mixed siliciclastic-carbonate settings. I. Environmental variation in shell condition
—Contrary to the geological stereotype of pure-carbonate reef platforms, approximately 50% of shallow shelf area in the Tropics is accumulating siliciclastic and mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sediments. Taphonomic characterization of these settings is thus essential for assessing variation among major facies types within the Tropics, as well as for eventual comparison with higherlatitude settin...
